    2 Northfield boys golfers are headed to state

    The Northfield High School boys golf team will be sending two to the upcoming 2024 MSHSL Class AAA state tournament, which will be held on June 6-7 at the Bunker Hills in Minneapolis.

    The Raiders on their way to the state meet are Elias Ekern and Miles Poole, who qualified with their play at the recent Section 1AAA championship tournament held in Lake City at The Jewel Golf Club on May 28-29.

    Ekern placed fourth at the tournament with a score of 149 (74-75) and Poole placed fifth at the meet with a score of 150 (75-75). Tim Sexton of Rochester Mayo was the tournament’s medalist with a two-round score of 142 (72-70).

    As a team, Northfield placed second at the section tournament with a score of 608 (305-303), while Rochester Mayo won the top spot with a score of 596 (305-291). Lakeville South (618) edged Rochester Century (618) for third place in a tie breaker, while Faribault (633), Lakeville North (636), Owatonna (643), Farmington (474), Austin (552) and Rochester John Marshall (579) completed the 11-team field at the section meet.

    Northfield’s other top scorers at the tournament included Will Cashin in seventh place at 151 (77-74), Griffin Kennelly in 21st place at 158 (79-79), Oliver Benjamin in 27th place at 160 (80-80) and Sam Boardman in 41st at 167 (86-81).
