Yearlong road closures, changes expected in Tyler for courthouse construction

TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) – Smith County is beginning the first phase of construction for the new courthouse, as a result there were will be some road closures and changes that may affect Downtown Tyler for a year.
According to a release, beginning on July 8, construction fencing will go up around the site of the new courthouse. The county said that traffic will continue to flow around the current courthouse and annex building, but that there will also be street closures and lane modifications in the area.
According to Smith County, the following traffic changes will be in effect for one year starting July 8, lasting the first phase of construction:
Erwin Street, from Spring Avenue to Fannin Avenue will be completely closed.
Fannin Street, from Erwin to Ferguson Street will be completely closed.
Ferguson Street, in front of the Annex Building will remain open to drivers but the parking spaces will be inside the construction fencing. No parking will be available in front of the Annex on Ferguson.
Most of Spring Avenue, between Erwin and Ferguson, will be blocked off and closed but one lane will remain open for people driving around the courthouse.
Spring Avenue next to the Smith County Jail from Erwin to Elm streets will reverse to southbound only, for driving and parking.
