Town of Leon celebrates opening of new community playground

LEON, Wis. (WKBT) -- Community members in the Town of Leon are celebrating the opening of a new playground.

The Leon Community Center Playground opened Sunday afternoon with a ribbon cutting ceremony and carnival. Families came out to enjoy a day of games, treats, and, of course, lots of playing on the new equipment.

The playground was made possible by the Leon Gatorfest Committee, which bought it in a surplus auction and had it installed. The committee's president, Kristin Betts, says the playground will be a special place for the community.

"I mean, kids need to be kids and I think this is just a great indication that they all just want to have fun here," she told News 8.

Betts also pointed out that the total cost of the playground was roughly $6,000, a relatively low sum given the scale of the project.

Gatorfest will be held on August 23rd and 24th this year. The annual festival features laundry basket softball, live music, and plenty of food -- including, you guessed it -- alligator meat.
