See who is our High School Girls' Lacrosse Coach of the Year for Bucks County area

The names of the key players change just about every year in high school sports, but one name, at stable programs, remains the same.

That of the head coach.

At Upper Moreland, Kim Frantz has done what few have been able to in our area and that's made her girls' lacrosse team relevant on the district level.

In a sport, in both boys and girls, dominated seemingly forever by programs on the other side of District One (Delaware County, in large part), Frantz has turned the Golden Bears into a legit contender.

Last year, her team reached the PIAA Class 2A tournament for the first time in school history.

This season, the Golden Bears, who were the top seed entering districts, again reached the PIAA tournament and did themselves one better by winning a first-round game.

To put that 11-9 victory over District Two champion Abington Heights in perspective, it marked just the second time a Courier Times/Intelligencer girls' lacrosse team has won a PIAA tournament game. Gwynedd Mercy, with three, is the only other area team to have won games in the PIAA tournament.

It all adds up to Frantz, who finished her eighth season at the helm, being named the Courier Times/Intelligencer Coach of the Year for the second straight year.

"She's just a great coach and she gives us the confidence to go out and play well," Upper Moreland junior goalie Addi Hurley said.

"We work hard, but she also makes it fun, and she wants us to succeed and will do whatever she can to help us."

Not surprisingly, Frantz deflected the praise to others.

"We've been very fortunate to have really good coaches in our middle school and youth programs and that helps so much when the kids get to me in high school," Frantz said.

"They already have that good base that they need and that helps them out so much."
