A bride was shocked while preparing for her wedding when she realized she couldn’t get legally married that day due to miscommunication about the paperwork.

When one of the bridesmaids asked about her marriage license, Abigail Bartle was getting her makeup and hair done for her wedding. Bartle said she didn’t have one, leading the bridesmaid to explain that she should. Bartle explained to PEOPLE that she and her then-fiance had a conversation a few weeks prior, and he said he was applying for the license online. However, as the wedding week approached, Bartle researched and discovered what was needed to get married in Florida.

“We are from Illinois, so on the drive down, I told my husband we needed to go to the courthouse when we got there. He told me he had talked to his sister, who got married there a few months prior, and we didn’t need to go,” she told the outlet. Although Bartle believed they needed to appear in person, her soon-to-husband claimed he took care of everything online. As her makeup artist recorded a video getting Bartle for the wedding, her bridesmaids told her they needed to be at the courthouse in person to obtain the license.

The video shows Bartle calling her partner Austin and telling him they need to go to the courthouse to get legally married; otherwise, the wedding cannot happen.

“Austin? Not to yell at you already … we were supposed to go to the courthouse together and get the marriage license. We’re not going to be legally married today. I told you. I literally told you,”

The video was uploaded on TikTok and went viral, where other couples commented and stated they had made a similar mistake before their wedding ceremonies. Bartle said she felt relieved to get the situation out of the way and filled out their marriage license the following Monday.

“That Monday, we got the marriage license, brought it home with us, had our officiant sign it, and we mailed it back to Florida. It’s actually funny now, and I’m happy we have a video of it to laugh at and show our kids in the future.”
