ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Two Rowan County detention center officers accused of supplying an inmate with tobacco are now facing charges, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday.

An investigation was launched into the suspicious activity earlier this year and on July 9th, contraband that included cigarettes and dipping tobacco were found in an inmate’s cell. Dustin Swaim was identified as the provider, he was interviewed and subsequently arrested.

He faces charges including willfully failing to discharge his duties and providing tobacco to an inmate. He is being held on a $10,000 secured bond. Zachary McIntyre also faces similar charges.

The inmate, 38-year-old William Upright, was also charged with possessing tobacco as an inmate.

Both men have been relieved of duties.
