(COLORADO) — The U.S. has had a summer full of record heat waves thus far, but according to a study of historical data, Saturday, July 20 is predicted to be the worst night of sleep based on temperature and humidity readings taken from the past 30 years.

Amerisleep conducted a survey of 30 years of weather data to identify each state’s hottest and most humid summer nights. The goal was to determine the average date when Americans can expect to have the worst sleep. The data was sourced from Weatherspark based on a statistical review of historical hourly weather reports from January 1, 1980, to December 31, 2016. The average was calculated from the highest daily average low temperature and the highest levels of humidity during the summer.

The statistically worst night for Coloradans to sleep well due to heat and humidity is July 20. However, FOX21 Storm Team Meteorologist Ryan Matoush reassures that this Saturday night’s temperatures will be cooler than average, likely in the 60s and 70s. On the other hand, the higher chance of storms and showers may prove the high humidity prediction right.

With plenty of summertime remaining, high nighttime temperatures may still pose challenges. For those nights, Amerisleep offers these tips for getting better sleep:

    • Optimize Your Bedroom Environment: Use fans, blackout curtains, and light bedding to keep your sleeping area cool all day.
    • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration.
    • Adjust Sleepwear: Wear lightweight, breathable fabrics to bed.
    • Cool Down Before Bed: Take a cool shower or use a damp washcloth on your neck and wrists to lower your body temperature.
    • Use a Fan: Fans circulate air and create a cooling effect, even if the temperature in the room is warm.
    • Limit AC Use Smartly: If energy costs are a concern, set your AC to a higher temperature or use it for shorter periods to cool the room before bedtime.
