POCATELLO — A motorcyclist is dead after a crash at a north Pocatello intersection early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. at Yellowstone Avenue and Flandro Drive.

The adult male motorcyclist died at the scene. The Bannock County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Angel Garcia, 28, of Pocatello.

“My heart goes out to Angel’s family and friends during this difficult time,” Bannock County Coroner Torey Danner said in a news release.

The crash shut down Flandro Drive for several hours on Sunday morning.

Pocatello police said that Garcia's motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck the curb in front of Zions Bank at the corner of Yellowstone and Flandro. After hitting the curb, the motorcycle flipped multiple times as it traveled across Flandro, police said.

The motorcycle and Garcia traveled more than 50 feet after hitting the curb and ended up on a grassy area at the Courtesy Ford car dealership, which is across Flandro from Zions Bank.

The crash left parts of the motorcycle scattered over a large area including the Courtesy Ford parking lot.

It appeared that one of the cars for sale at the dealership got struck by the motorcycle, which suffered so much damage during the accident that it was nearly severed in half.

The wreck was investigated by Pocatello police.
