    Old Farmer's Almanac predicts cooler than average 2024 fall season for Michigan

    That trip to the cider mill could be a little cooler than usual for Michiganders this fall, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.

    The publication, which released its annual fall forecast, is predicting below-average temperatures for most of the Lower Peninsula and near-average temps for the tip of the mitt and the Upper Peninsula.

    Meantime, most of the country is predicted to see above-average temperatures, including the Pacific Northwest, Texas and Alaska.

    Michiganders can also expect to see below-average precipitation this fall, the almanac predicts.

    The Old Farmer's Almanac, which began in 1792, has made a name for itself by providing long-term weather forecasts on an annual basis.

    What's the average fall temperature in metro Detroit?

    Here's what a typical fall season looks like in the region, according to the National Weather Service:

    • September: 74.4 degrees
    • October: 62 degrees
    • November: 48.6 degrees
    • December: 37.2 degrees

    What areas do the Almanac predict warmer than average temperatures?

    Here are the regions that are expected to see warmer than average temperatures this fall, according to the Almanac:

    • The Heartland
    • Pacific Northwest and Intermountain
    • Texas-Oklahoma and High Plains
    • Pacific Southwest and Desert Southwest
    • Alaska
    • Hawaii

    Is the Old Farmer's Almanac accurate?

    The Old Farmer's Almanac boasts an average accuracy of about 80% for its weather reports . But many weather experts disagree with the predictions, saying the Almanac's weather reports may be no better than chance.
