Volunteers can begin registering on Aug. 1 to help clean up Volusia County beaches and waterways as part of the International Coastal Cleanup.

The event will be 8-11 a.m. on Sept. 21, and volunteers can participate in cleaning up over 20 sites along the beach, the Halifax River and the Indian River , according to a Volusia County government press release.

The Volusia County Environmental Management Division will host the event. Last year volunteers collected 7,786 pounds of trash.

Registration runs from Aug. 1 through Sept. 8. The first 1,000 to sign up will get a "signature giveaway item" at the end of the event, according to the county.

For information or to register, go to volusia.org/cleanup or email internationalcoastalcleanup@volusia.org .
