College football fans are in for a treat in 2024. Not only because of the hype surrounding the expanded College Football Playoff but also the large number of marquee matchups throughout the year.

The bulk of those high-intensity matchups come within – surprise – the SEC.

The conference is once again nothing short of loaded. Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss, and the new addition of Texas returning, as playoff contenders, while also featuring a revamped LSU and an up-and-coming Missouri.

Those aforementioned make up the best SEC matchups of the season, according to ESPN's Bill Connelly , who recently named his top five games of the year.

It all starts with a historic battle in Tuscaloosa ranked as the No. 1 game in the league this year.

Georgia-Alabama on Sept. 28 will headline Week 5 matchups for good reason. Kirby Smart will lead the Bulldogs against new-look Alabama for Kalen DeBoer's welcome-to-the-SEC moment.

The Bulldogs will have an opportunity to avenge their loss to the Crimson Tide in the SEC championship that ultimately prevented a three-peat chance.

Connelly also included the Bulldogs two more times within his top five, including the trip to Texas on Oct. 19 and the road matchup versus Ole Miss on Nov. 9.

The Longhorns are coming off a playoff appearance, while the Rebels would have made the postseason, like UGA, if the new format was in place a year ago.

Connelly's other two mentions are Missouri at Alabama (Oct. 26) and Alabama at LSU (Nov. 9).
