Haason Reddick's Jets Training Camp fines reach $300K and counting

The pads are on at New York Jets training camp, but edge rusher Haason Reddick has yet to arrive.

After four padless practices, as dictated by NFL protocol, the Jets took the next step on Monday in Florham Park, doing so without one of their top defensive assets on the field. Reddick, who is apparently seeking a new contract after being traded to New York in late March, has extended his holdout into a second week.

"I have nothing on him," said head coach Robert Saleh when asked about Reddick's status after Monday's practice in Florham Park.

Despite lacking an update, Saleh indicated that there has been contact between the Jets and the disgruntled player.

"Our coaches are all speaking to him and all that," said Saleh.

While apparently attempting to make a statement regarding his value, Reddick is losing money with each day that passes. The NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement mandates a $50K per-day-missed fine for training camp holdouts. The New Jersey native has missed six days of camp and five practices.

According to reports, Reddick also faces an additional penalty that's equal to 15 percent of his prorated signing bonus beginning on Sunday. The Jets have the option whether or not to impose that extra fine.

"From a business standpoint, he's got to do what he has to do and if this is what he feels is the best choice for him and his family, then that's what he's got to do," said Saleh.

Set to turn 30 years old on September 22, Reddick has one season remaining on his current contract that will pay the Pro Bowler defensive end approximately $14 million. He led the Philadelphia Eagles in sacks over the past two seasons.
