Trump weighs in on Florida abortion, marijuana ballot measures

( NewsNation ) — Republican nominee for president Donald Trump, after saying he would support changing Florida’s ban on abortion from six weeks to 24 weeks, now says he is against it.

Trump, who is from Florida, was asked during an interview on NBC last week about an amendment to the state’s current law. To NBC, he said the six-week limit is “too short.”

When pressed about how he will be voting on the measure, Trump said “I am going to be voting that we need more than six weeks.”

However, he later told Fox News that he would “be voting no” on the measure after facing backlash from his own party.

“So I think six weeks, you need more time than six weeks. I’ve disagreed with that right from the early primaries when I heard about it, I disagreed with it,” Trump said. “At the same time, the Democrats are radical.”

At a rally in Michigan, Trump said that the abortion issue needs to be “brought back into the states where it belongs.”

Another high-profile ballot initiative in Florida concerns the legalization of marijuana, which Trump posted about on TruthSocial over the weekend, saying “whether people like it or not, this will happen through the approval of the voters, so it should be done correctly.”

Amendment 3 would legalize the recreational use of marijuana for adults, letting them possess up to three ounces. Florida’s medical marijuana industry, which is among the largest in the country, brings in more than $2 billion each year.

“We need the State Legislature to responsibly create laws that prohibit the use of it in public spaces, so we do not smell marijuana everywhere we go, like we do in many of the Democrat-run Cities,” Trump wrote.

Trump’s home state is expected to go red for the third straight presidential election, though his lead has gotten much smaller in recent weeks.
