NILES, Ohio (WKBN) — A teenage boy is in the Trumbull County Juvenile Detention Center facing a murder charge stemming from a deadly shooting in Niles Thursday.

Police got the call just before 11:15 reporting that a man had been shot in the 300 block of High Avenue. When officers arrived, they found 23-year-old Brandon Bork in a driveway suffering from a gunshot wound to his head.

Bork was taken to the hospital where he died.

Investigators say the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation that happened at a party at the home.

Police say the 15-year-old suspect initially took off but returned to the scene and turned himself in.

“During our interview, he did elaborate a little bit on what happened but still doesn’t make a lot of sense as to logic or reason,” said Capt. John Marshall.

Joe Hickox who lives nearby said he initially thought someone was hurt lighting off fireworks.

“I did see the cops roll by last night with an ambulance about five minutes later but I stuck my head out the window and just went back inside,” said Hickox.

Hickox now knows the police were responding to the shooting.

“It’s a pretty quiet neighborhood too. The whole time I’ve been here nothing’s ever happened like that before,” he said.

Police say the witnesses they spoke to said it was the first time they saw Bork.

“People were less forthcoming as to where the gun came from but one of the witnesses did indicate the gun came from inside the house. He doesn’t know if the people that lived in the house knew the gun was there,” Capt. John Marshall said.

Police hope to speak with some additional witnesses.
