NORFOLK (WAVY) — For the second year in a row, the MEAC held its Girls on the Gridiron Flag Football Clinic at Norfolk State.

75 girls, ages 12 and over, attended the event. They were there to learn some of the finer points of the game from MEAC coaches and players.

While those guys did a great job, it didn’t hurt to have Michael Vick there.

The former NFL Pro-Bowl quarterback from Newport News was there to help grow the game.

“I see drive, I see enthusiasm,” Vick said. “I see young women willing to learn what it’s like to go to the next level.”

Vick knows first hand the impact football is having on girls in this generation. His daughter Jada, who was at today’s clinic, is a young, up and coming football player.

“I’ve watched my daughter over the last couple of years just dedicate herself to becoming the best that she can be to be a pioneer for the game for the rest of the next generation so it means a lot to be here so I’m thankful.”
