An 11-year-old who died after drowning in a North Myrtle Beach resort pool was swimming near her father.

He will face no charges, according to North Myrtle Beach Police reports.

Serenity Evans died Tuesday from injuries she sustained after being pulled from a pool at The Links Resort , 917 Thomas Ave., according to a release from Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard. She was vacationing with her family in North Myrtle Beach from Lawrenceville, Georgia.

Evans, her father and her sister were holding on to the side of the pool while they swam in the deep end the evening of July 20, the police report said. Her father went to help her sister, and when he turned around, he saw Evans drowning in the middle of the deep end.

Her dad tried to get her out of the water, but it was difficult as he is not a strong swimmer, according to the police report. With help from others, Serenity was rescued from the pool and an off-duty EMT began providing CPR while they waited for an ambulance.

Emergency services were called around 6:45p.m. and they brought Evans to the Grand Strand Medical Center. She died from her injuries on July 23.

No one is being charged as there was no gross negligence or criminality found, the police report said.
