The Northfield High School jazz bands will again be playing for multiple generations of dancers on Saturday, April 20, at their annual Swing Dance, continuing a tradition that goes back more than 20 years.

Unique to Northfield, the swing dance will bring together parents, siblings, grandparents, swing dance enthusiasts, and community members for an evening of moving and listening to live music.

The set list for the bands will draw from a variety of big band music, including swing, waltz, polka, Latin, funk, and rock. Many big band standards from the golden age of swing will be performed, as well as more contemporary styles, and you will have a chance to do the Chicken Dance.

For those looking for an introduction or refresher for swing dancing, local dance teacher and Rock 'N Roll Revival choreographer Shari Setchell will provide a free dance lesson from 6:45-7:25 p.m.

This year's dance will again be at the Northfield Ballroom. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m, and the bands will begin playing at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $10, and may be purchased at the door, cash only. Proceeds support the Northfield High School jazz bands.

The Northfield High School jazz bands are directed by Nahal Javan and David Miller.
