Around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, a two-vehicle crash occurred at the 7th and Washington streets intersection.

The driver of the Northfield School bus was taken to the hospital after suffering minor injuries. The driver of the car was treated for injuries at the scene.

There were no school children on the bus at the time.

A city fire hydrant was damaged, said Northfield Police Chief Mark Elliott.

"Unlike in the movies, water doesn't spray out, because the valve is buried underground," Elliott noted.

He said that the driver of the car was apparently traveling east of 7th Street and had stopped at a stop sign. When he proceeded forward, he said he did not see the small yellow school bus approaching north on Washington Street.

Elliott said it was likely that tall grasses at that intersection had obstructed the driver's view. He said a Northfield Streets and Park crew had been notified to cut down the intersection's grasses.
