A frustrating weekend at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals came to an early end in the first round for eight-time NHRA Top Fuel world champion Tony Schumacher. Racing at Summit Motorsports Park on Sunday morning, Schumacher made his quickest pass of the weekend in JCM Racing’s Leatherwood Distillery/Waltrip Brewing Co. Top Fuel dragster, but it wasn’t quick enough to turn on the win light in the first round, where numerous races were determined by thousandths of a second.
TJ Zizzo Continues Strong Performance in Norwalk
In front of a packed house at Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals TJ Zizzo and the Rust-Oleum Top Fuel dragster team brought energy and a strong 12,000-horsepower land rocket performance to race day. After two days of qualifying that saw the Zizzo Racing entry steadily improve almost every session Zizzo qualified No. 10 and faced Tripp Tatum in the opening session. During qualifying Zizzo posted a career fastest speed lighting up the scoreboards at Summit Motorsports Park with a blistering 334.40 mph run.

Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse graduate students Libby Rowe and Elizabeth Talluto have received Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators, with Talluto also considered for Academic All-America recognition. Rowe was recognized as an All-MAAC Second Team member for her impressive performance in the league, ranking among the top players in various statistical categories. Talluto, on the other hand, boasts an outstanding 2024 resume, including being named MAAC Offensive Player of the Year and achieving multiple other accolades.

2024 lohud Westchester/Putnam Baseball Player of the Year. Tyler Renz, Sr., P, Fox Lane: The St. John's-bound standout repeated as Conference 1 and league pitcher of the Year, and he was awarded Section 1 Pitcher of the Year. He went 8-1 this season with a 1.13 ERA and 88 strikeouts, while holding opponents to a .148 batting average. Renz was a key catalyst in bringing the Foxes to the Section 1 Class AA finals, stepping up big and earning wins in relief in three consecutive playoff games to bring Fox Lane to the championship game. His lone loss of the year came in a 1-0 pitcher's duel against Class AAA state runner-up Ketcham, where the Foxes were kept hitless in the tight battle. Renz received plenty of interest and visits from MLB scouts this past season. A three-year varsity player, he graduates as the Foxes' all-time record holder in wins (19) and strikeouts (224).
