The family of a missing Rabun County man will hold a candlelight prayer vigil for him on Saturday night, August 31. The vigil for Vaughn Callenback is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. outside the Rabun County Courthouse in Clayton.

Callenback’s daughter, Joanie Callenback Knight, invites the community to join them.

She shared an open invitation on social media: “Let’s be a united community, come together in love, and pray as one for his safe return and answers!”

Knight, who has been critical of how the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office first handled her father’s disappearance, continues pressing for answers. She maintains a heavy social media presence, seeking help to find her father.

The 77-year-old Callenback was last seen at United Community Bank in Clayton on July 5. His truck was found two days later, approximately 15 miles northeast of town, over an embankment on Old Coleman River Road.

Deputies had the truck towed, but Knight says they never informed the family. It wasn’t until six days later that she says she learned her father was missing. Since then, the distraught daughter has conducted media interviews and kept a high profile to raise awareness and recruit help finding him.

Investigators previously said there were no signs of foul play. The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office says the case remains active, and the sheriff’s office and GBI are following up on leads.

Knight says she’s grateful for the hundreds of first responders and volunteers who have donated many hours searching for her father.

As of the day of his vigil, he has been missing for 58 days.
