The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office said that on Labor Day weekend, they conducted a traffic enforcement campaign on GA 365 to facilitate safe travel for the holiday weekend. During this operation, two cars were stopped at speeds of 95 and 99 mph, respectively, just north of Duncan Bridge Road.

A news release from the sheriff’s office says the two vehicles — a Kia SUV and Hyundai sedan — were traveling “nearly side by side” as they traveled southbound.

A Habersham Sheriff’s Office Special Operations HEAT Unit conducted a traffic stop on both vehicles. The Kia driver was charged with operating a vehicle on a suspended license. Deputies charged the Hyundai driver with DUI. Both were charged with speeding, reckless driving, racing, and no insurance, says Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore.

HEAT Deputy Phillip Young encourages drivers to follow the rules of the road.

“We ask each driver to continue to remain calm while behind the wheel, maintain safe and lawful speeds, buckle up, refrain from distractions from mobile devices, and not drive while impaired,” he says. To those who don’t, Young warns that “the Sheriff’s Office will continue our proactive enforcement efforts to put an end to hazardous driving violations on our roadways.”
