Tower Tunes Live in Jefferson Reveals Greene Co High School’s Spring Musical
Wednesday was a unique performance for Tower Tunes Live on the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower in Jefferson. Greene County High School Choir Director David Heupel played seven songs as part of the “reveal” for the 2025 high school spring musical. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio he originally signed up in June to be one of the volunteer Music Maestros on Wednesdays in the summer with Tower Tunes Live. He then had the idea to unveil the musical a few weeks ago for his turn to play the four octave bells. The musical will be “The Little Mermaid” and Heupel talked about why he chose that.
Perry Principal Brad Snowgren on Areas of Focus Coming Into New School Year
The new school year is approaching quickly as Perry High School Principal’s walks through the preparations he’s making. Following the January 4th shooting that killed sixth grader Ahmir Jolliff and longtime High School Principal Dan Marburger, the school board named Brad Snowgren to that role. He was Perry’s Associate Principal for the past six years. Snowgren discusses the areas he’s been zeroing in on prepping for the 2024-2025 school year.
Woodward-Granger football has big playoff dreams

Conner is back at QB for Senior season
Greene County football senior Crew Conner was a quarterback in junior high and in his early high school years. He was moved to receiver in recent seasons, but is now back at the QB position. Gabe Ebersole was the starter the last two seasons, but he graduated last spring. Nick Madsen played a role as a backup quarterback last year until concussions ended his season early, and he did not return to football this year.
Small numbers out for Ram football
The number of high school football players in the shared program between Greene County and Paton-Churdan has been falling in recent seasons. That trend appears to be continuing as just under 40 freshman through seniors were at Tuesday morning’s practice. The Rams haven’t been able to field three teams, freshman, JV, and varsity, for a while, and head coach Caden Duncan told Raccoon Valley Radio there are six games on the schedule below the varsity level for 2024 to go with the eight regular season varsity games.
Perry High School to Include Therapy Dogs During 2024-25 School Year
Perry High School will be getting some furry friends for the upcoming school year. The high school is bringing in two therapy dogs to continue to help students. Greene Co High School Vocal Department to Reveal Spring 2025 Musical with Tower Tunes Live Tomorrow
A unique performance is happening tomorrow as part of an ongoing summer program in Jefferson. Tomorrow is another edition of Tower Tunes Live from 12:15-12:30pm and it will involve the Greene County High School Vocal Department as Director David Heupel will reveal what high school musical will be performed this next March. Heupel tells Raccoon Valley Radio this idea started after he signed up to be one of this year’s Maestros for the Tower Tunes Live summer concerts.
Perry Graduate Scott Dickerson Graciously Buys School Supplies for Elementary Teachers
A graduate from Perry Community Schools recently gave back to local teachers with a kind gesture. Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks tells Raccoon Valley Radio that Scott Dickerson, who is a 1981 graduate, offered to purchase school supplies for any Perry Elementary teacher prior to the 2024-2025 school year. Dickerson met the teachers at Target in Urbandale as they walked around the store to buy necessary items. Wicks praises Dickerson for his polite action.
