AMES, Iowa — Elwood, a world record holder, was built in 2010 and lived at the Reiman Gardens. The intention was to build the world's tallest gnome, but during construction, they found out there was a gnome in Poland two feet taller. So, Elwood holds the record as the world's tallest concrete gnome.

Register for Baby Bubblers Class with Jefferson Parks and Rec
Jefferson area parents with very young children are encouraged to register for a class to enjoy a summer outdoor activity. The Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department is offering a Baby Bubblers class for six month to three year olds next week, Monday through Friday from 5:30-6pm at the Jefferson Municipal Pool. JPRD Assistant Director Nathan Kral says this class will cover pool safety, introduce the young ones to the pool and basic water play. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio this program was a huge success last year.
Register for Art Classes at Greene County Community Center
There are a series of art-related workshops coming up for area youth at the Greene County Community Center. Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department Assistant Director Nathan Kral says Jolene Peters, owner of Art on the Fly, is hosting four art opportunities for any ages six and up, starting later this week. On Thursday will be creating a geometric art on a canvas and Friday is constructing a wood and stick structure. Then next Monday is printmaking techniques with different textures on tools and using lots of different inks and paint to make art on paper. Finally, next Tuesday is a sensory class with neurographic art that promotes relaxation and brain health.
