Boone City Council Considering Bids for Utility Projects, Naming Rec Director
BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council will be holding their regular meeting at 6:00 p.m. at the Boone City hall and will give consideration to a couple of utility projects. One is the Lime Slaker Replacement Project. WRH, Inc. of Amana is the apparent low bid of more than $659,000 about $73,000 over the engineers estimate. Another would be a roofing project at both the Water Environment Station in McHose Park and the Water Works Plant northwest of Boone. That total bid from Black Hawk Roof Company from Waterloo is over a million dollars.

Erwin “Erv” Klaas, 88, a former professor emeritus of animal ecology at Iowa State University, founder of Friends of Ada Hayden Heritage Park and a one-time Story County Citizen of the Year, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024.

A local business within the Perry community recently held a ribbon cutting to show off their facility. The Perry Chamber of Commerce was at Inside Out Wellness & Advocacy Friday to celebrate the organization’s new Children’s Crisis Stabilization Center and Outpatient Mental Health Clinic in Perry. According to Inside Out, the stabilization center will be providing mental health services for children later this summer and plan to add an adult crisis center in the fall.

The Perry City Council will meet in regular session tonight. During the meeting, the council will seek a resolution supporting Raccoon River Pet Rescue’s Spay and Neuter program in the community of Perry. Other items apart on the agenda at tonight’s meeting seeking approval include pay applications for the Wastewater Treatment Facility project, the Willis Avenue Overlay project, the Automated Weather Observing System project, the runway relocation phases two and three for the Perry Municipal Airport, and a change order for the 2024 HMA Street Repairs.
Register for Art Classes at Greene County Community Center
There are a series of art-related workshops coming up for area youth at the Greene County Community Center. Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department Assistant Director Nathan Kral says Jolene Peters, owner of Art on the Fly, is hosting four art opportunities for any ages six and up, starting later this week. On Thursday will be creating a geometric art on a canvas and Friday is constructing a wood and stick structure. Then next Monday is printmaking techniques with different textures on tools and using lots of different inks and paint to make art on paper. Finally, next Tuesday is a sensory class with neurographic art that promotes relaxation and brain health.
