Michigan had several in-state targets on campus in late July for the annual BBQ at The Big House, including elite 2027 Harper Woods (Mich.) High athlete Dakota Guerrant .

The barbecue was Guerrant’s seventh visit to Ann Arbor. During the event, he participated in drills that wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy oversaw and reunited with players on the roster.

“The barbecue was great, honestly,” Guerrant told The Wolverine . “They had us work out and then they gave me some cleats for me to work out in. Got to see how Bellamy (could) coach me and stuff like that, coach the rest of the guys. The food put it at the top, for sure.”

Guerrant is garnering a tighter relationship with Bellamy this offseason.

“He’s very technical and straight to the point,” Guerrant said. “He said I catch the ball very easy. Smoothness, stuff like that.”

After picking up a Michigan offer during last year’s spring evaluation period, Guerrant has been back four times since the coaching staff turnover. Now that Sherrone Moore is at the helm, Guerrant is getting to know the former well and has been impressed with the head coach’s ability to connect with prospects and their families.

“My mom came in a different vehicle, so she came a little later, and he already knew who my mom was as soon as she got there,” Guerrant said. “She said he just walked up to her and knew exactly who she was. He knows how to recruit. He’s showing a lot of love, man. He’s a cool guy, cool big guy.”

Having so many trips in his pockets has resulted in Guerrant becoming very familiar with the reigning national champions.

“Great,” Guerrant said. “Michigan being a big school, hometown school, everyone wants to go to Michigan. Just trying to build bonds, seeing the ins and outs, seeing what’s good, what’s not, comparing it to other schools. Thinking more long (term), seeing what I would go to college for, how would that go. Seeing the dorms.”

A future return could happen at the end of the month when Michigan hosts Fresno State in the season opener. He’s eyeing cousin and freshman defensive back Jacob Oden to potentially see the field.

“I got to come for a game, probably week one,” Guerrant said. “Jake might get in that game.”

The Wolverines are the early favorite for Guerrant on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

At 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, Guerrant is not yet listed on the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four primary recruiting media services.

Along with Michigan, he holds notable offers from Ohio State, Michigan State, Kentucky, Maryland, Purdue, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Penn State, Pitt, Auburn, and Louisville, among others.
