Penn State football is on the cusp of starting its third week of preseason camp. As such, the program is officially starting to welcome some walk-ons from the Class of 2024 to campus ahead of the start of the fall semester. The first group of newcomers hit the roster recently and will suit up on both sides of the ball.
Going in numerical order, the first new Nittany Lion is Tyler Armstead . The Canonsburg, Pa., native will wear jersey No. 35. He was a two-way star at Canon-McMillan High School. His time at State College will start with a focus on cornerback in position coach Terry Smith’s room. Armstead picked Penn State back in December after receiving a preferred walk-on offer. He is 6-foot-1, 166 pounds.
Next up is Erie, Pa., defensive end Aidan Probst . He was a classmate of Penn State offensive lineman Cooper Cousins at McDowell. Probst will wear No. 47 in blue and white and is 6-foot-2, 215 pounds. MaxPreps credits Probst with three fumble recoveries during his senior season. Like Armstead, he also played both ways at the prep level but will now focus on defense. Probst picked Penn State last December.
A pair of offensive linemen are next on our list. Ramsey, N.J., blocker Logan Bahn will wear No. 60. Malvern, Pa., lineman Liam Horan , then, will wear No. 61. Bahn exited high school standing 6-foot-4, 300 pounds and had interest from Penn, Cornell, and Bucknell, among others. Horan is 6-foot-2, 250 pounds and had an Air Force offer. Both players picked Penn State in January.
Last but not least of the newcomers is Manheim, Pa., receiver Aaron Enterline . The former Manheim Central star will wear No. 86 for Penn State and is 6-foot-2, 185 pounds. According to Lancaster Online, he caught 80 passes for 1,508 yards and 25 touchdowns as a senior. Those gaudy numbers earned him first-team Class 4A All-State honors.
“They just develop guys,” Enterline told Lancaster Online . “There will be guys who go in there that you don’t really hear about in high school. They come out as top three round draft picks. Even if you don’t go to the NFL, you’re set for life having a Penn State degree.”
Penn State will be able to add more walk-ons to its roster once fall classes begin. Besides the group listed above, the team also added former Air Force offensive lineman Mason Carlan to its roster as a walk-on before preseason camp started. The redshirt senior from Arkansas has plenty of game experience. He stands 6-foot-2, 295 pounds and will wear No. 76.
