The Lubbock Police Department desk confirmed a 911 call at 11:33 p.m. that was reporting the accident. However, to this point, no other details have been released. That includes no information on what led to the accident.

Shortly following the accident, Texas Tech also released its own statement.

“The thoughts and prayers of Red Raider Nation are with our friends at ACU and those who may have been injured in tonight’s accident,” the statement read . “Our administration has been in constant contact with ACU’s staff since their departure and will assist wherever needed.”

Earlier in the day, Abilene Christian nearly upset Texas Tech. The FCS program scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to force overtime. Once in overtime, both teams scored a touchdown. However, ACU wasn’t able to convert for its point after, giving the Red Raiders a 52-51 win.

Abilene Christian has another game next Saturday. That’s when the Wildcats will host West Georgia . However, it’s difficult to say if this accident is going to have any impact on that game, particularly the availability of the injured player and coaches.
