The hype around the Ole Miss football team is palpable entering the 2024 season. A primary reason why the Rebels are garnering plenty of buzz nationally has much to do with Lane Kiffin's prolific offensive attack.
Quarterback Jaxson Dart is considered to be a preseason Heisman contender, which can be attributed to the pass catchers he has at his disposal along with his top flight arm talent. Wide receiver Tre Harris will be the most important weapon for Dart and this Ole Miss offense, and after a highly productive 2023 season it's easy to see why Harris has been named to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List .
The Biletnekoff Award goes to the nation's most outstanding receiver, regardless of position meaning tight ends and pass-catching backs are also eligible. Harris is one of 49 players named to the watch list, but figures to be a serious contender to take home this prestigious award.
Harris posted a career high 985 receiving yards on 54 receptions in his first season at Ole Miss after transferring from Louisiana Tech. Harris found the endzone eight times through the air, but his 18.2 yards per catch makes him one of college football's best big-play wideouts.
The only thing that might get in Harris' way is the talent that will be alongside him. The Rebels added wide receiver Juice Wells through the transfer portal. While Wells was banged up for much of last season, he was able to rack up 928 yards and six touchdowns on 68 catches for South Carolina in 2022. Not to be forgotten, wide receiver Jordan Watkins and tight end Caden Prieskorn are also top options for Dart in the passing game.
Kiffin would refer to these watch lists as preseason buzz as "rat poison," but Harris has earned his place on this list. Harris has an opportunity to add to Ole Miss' Wide Receiver University brand and take home college football's most prestigious award for a pass catcher.
