A Pensacola man is charged with second-degree murder after his mother was found in his home with a gunshot wound and multiple stab wounds.

Escambia County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested 44-year-old Christopher Booth Sunday after the Pensacola Police Department received a call from Booth's friend that the man had killed his mother, Audrey Booth, according to court records.

Deputies then arrived at his home on Fremont Avenue where a deputy "observed bullet holes in a back window" of the residence. After repeated knocking, Booth answered the front door, saying he was asleep. When asked if anyone was home, Booth replied, "No," and said he had last seen his mother earlier in the day.

"Deputy Touchstone stated that while trying to make small talk with Christopher Booth he stated 'just go ahead and put the bracelets on me' while holding his hands out and stating he didn't want to answer any questions," court records say. "A short time later, Audrey Booth was located deceased in the residence."

An investigator later arrived on scene and saw Audrey Booth lying in bed with "wounds consistent with both gunshot and knife wounds." The investigator also found an AR-15 rifle behind a table and a spent .223 shell casing on the ground.

The same friend who first notified the PPD of the incident told investigators that he currently lives out of state but has been friends with Christopher Booth for years. Booth allegedly told his friend that he feared for his life after saying his mother threatened to kill his former partner.

"(Witness) stated that at (7:08 p.m.) Christopher Booth contacted him and told him that he had killed Audrey Booth," records say. "(Witness) advised that Christopher Booth told him that he shot Audrey Booth in the face with an AR-15, but she didn't die, so he stabbed her."

Christopher Booth is held in Escambia County Jail without bond. His attorney, Marci McCoy, entered a plea of not guilty on Christopher Booth's behalf Tuesday.
