To say that the Phoenix Mercury are a tad shorthanded at the moment would be an understatement. On Friday against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, Brittney Griner was forced to exit the game with what was later diagnosed as a hip injury. The nine-time All-Star was unable to return as the Mercury suffered a 95-86 loss.

Phoenix is back in action on Sunday against the Connecticut Sun, and the team has now made an important announcement regarding Griner's status for that matchup. As of writing, it appears that the 33-year-old will be forced to sit out the upcoming game:

"Brittney Griner (hip) questionable for Sunday," per Underdog WNBA on X, formerly Twitter.

It is also important to note that Diana Taurasi, who has missed the last three games due to a lingering lower leg injury, is also considered questionable to play against Connecticut.

Sep 9, 2014; Phoenix, AZ, USA; Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner (42) and guard Diana Taurasi (3) against the Chicago Sky during game two of the WNBA Finals at US Airways Center. The Mercury defeated the Sky 97-68.

Guards Sug Sutton (hamstring) and Charisma Osborne (lower leg) have already been ruled out for Sunday's clash, while Natasha Cloud (knee) is also questionable to play.

The worst-case scenario for Phoenix is that they could be down to six active players against the Sun.
