Every year, the U.S. Open challenges the best golfers on the planet to a four-day test of skill and perseverance.

Usually held at some of the most historic and recognizable clubs in America, the USGA's signature event typically generates positive reviews from the golfing community. In 2015, however, Chambers Bay became enemy No. 1 of the golf world as brown, bumpy greens and non-U.S. Open-like conditions overall irked some of the game's most diehard fans.

Chambers Bay is back in the spotlight once again this week - though it's not because the Pierce County municipal track has returned to the upcoming U.S. Open venue list .

Rather, the Tacoma News Tribune reported on Saturday that representatives from the marketing agency for LIV Golf recently reached out to Chambers Bay about hosting an event.

"If they follow up with their indirect inquiry, we’ll listen," Pierce County executive counsel Don Anderson told TNT’s Jon Manley, via Golf.com .

After the poor response from the golf world following the 2015 U.S. Open, Chambers Bay made several notable changes to the course - the biggest of which replacing the browned-out fescue putting surfaces for poa annua greens.

Anderson suggested that Pierce County still holds out hope for another U.S. Open or major championship in the future, however, he appeared to be open to the idea of a non-USGA or PGA option.

"With respect to the U.S. Open, I think our best shot is being the attractive cousin who’s a backup date when your prom date can’t go,” Anderson said, via Golf.com.

The golf community seems to be divided over LIV Golf's initial proposal to play an event at Chambers Bay.

Many fans, though, believe it's time that Pierce County gets another shot at hosting a large tournament.
