A man has been arrested and charged with kidnapping and first-degree murder after a woman allegedly leapt from his moving vehicle during a police chase in Arizona on Saturday and died.

William Nathaniel Holloway, 36, was arrested by deputies with the Pima County Sheriff’s on July 20 in the early evening. The woman who was riding as a passenger in Holloway’s vehicle called police to report a domestic violence incident near Catalina Highway and Melpomene Way and according to local CBS affiliate KOLD , the woman said Holloway — her boyfriend —  had consumed an illegal drug before driving them to Mt. Lemmon. Holloway allegedly would not let her out of the car.

Jail records show that a bond of $750,000 has been set for Holloway. In addition to the first-degree murder charge and the kidnapping charge, he is also charged with unlawful flight from law enforcement.

An investigation is still pending, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office.

It is unclear if Holloway has retained an attorney at this time but a court clerk was able to confirm to Law&Crime by phone on Monday that Holloway’s next court appearance is slated for July 31.

KOLD reported that when deputies caught up to Holloway and ordered him to pull over, he ignored their commands. Instead, he continued to speed away and led them on a chase around Mt. Lemmon.

Holloway was driving at speeds between 25 mph and 45 mph, according to the outlet. When the woman — who was not identified by police as of Monday — jumped out of the car, she was critically injured. Holloway allegedly kept driving and was only captured after he got a flat tire and police were able to catch up to him.

She was transported to a local hospital and died as a result of her injuries.

KOLD also reported that Holloway has a criminal record in Arizona.

Over the last roughly 20 years he has been charged with armed robbery, trafficking stolen property, fraud and third-degree burglary.
