Three Steelers not named Russell Wilson or Justin Fields who are must-watch during training camp

The Pittsburgh Steelers roster is brimming with questions and players to watch.

Most of them start with the QB position, but that won't be much of a battle when training camp comes.

So instead of pumping up the big names, here are three Steelers who deserve a ton of attention when camp opens next week.

    EDGE Nick Herbig

In my opinion, Herbig is going to have an impact on this team that few see coming. Being promoted from the fourth pass rusher to the third, his rookie role of being a designated pass-rusher will be elevated to a more consistent share of snap counts.

Not only will a bigger role help the Steelers' defense, it will also help T.J. Watt, who is chasing an NFL record that would allow him to stand alone in the pantheon of pass rushers.

Expect Herbig to turn a lot of heads once again in Latrobe this year.

    WR Roman Wilson

The Steelers have yet to answer who will be the starting wideout opposite of George Pickens. Trade rumors, free agent signings, you name it, it's been floated as a possibility for Pittsburgh.

But at this point, it's more likely that Pittsburgh rolls with their current crop of pass catchers, none of whom produce more intrigue than rookie Roman Wilson. The rest of the group is widely known, though Calvin Austin III might be in store for a breakout year .

Regardless, if Wilson is lights out when the pads come on, or unremarkable, it will be telling for the WR room.

    CB Donte Jackson

Jackson is a name that bears watching because of the position he plays. We know that Joey Porter Jr. will hold down the fort on the opposite side, but if Pittsburgh's defense is going to live up to their potential, the secondary will have to be better in 2024.

Boasting what is arguably the best front seven in football after an offseason of acquisitions of names like Patrick Queen and Payton Wilson to pair with a monstrous defensive line, it's all down to the DBs.

With Deshon Elliott in the fold and Minkah Fitzpatrick looking to get back to his All-Pro status , how well the CB #2 position holds up will likely determine the ceiling on the Steelers' defense in 2024.
