    The week in varsity basketball

    The high school boys and girls varsity basketball seasons are nearing the end and the excitement of the postseason regional tournament is here. Here is a snapshot of the final regular season games and conference standings.

    MARAWOOD NORTH — BOYS

    Conference, Overall

    Rib Lake: 10-4, 17-5

    Prentice: 6-8, 12-9

    Phillips: 6-8, 12-10

    Athens: 3-11, 8-14

    Abbotsford: 2-12, 3-19

    Chequamegon: 2-12, 4-18

    Rib Lake High School remains at the top of the Marawood North standings and were 1-0 on the week with a 66-47 home win over second place Prentice on Feb. 16. Rib Lake concludes the regular season at home against conference rivals Chequamegon on Feb. 19, and Phillips on Feb. 22.

    Prentice went 1-1 on the week with the loss at Rib Lake and a 76-56 non-conference home win against Bruce on Feb. 13. The Buccaneers host Phillips on Feb. 19, and head to Athens (3-11) on Feb. 22.

    Phillips is now tied for second place with Prentice after going 2-0 on the week with a 68-27 non-conference win at Tomahawk on Feb. 13, an 86-63 home against Abbotsford on Feb. 16. The Loggers head to Prentice on Feb. 19, and play at first place Rib Lake on Feb. 22.

    Athens went 1-1 on the week with a 51-48 non-conference win at Pittsville and a 68-62 loss to Chequamegon on Feb. 16.

    Abbotsford went 0-1 on the week with the loss at Phillips.

    Chequamegon went 1-2 on the week with a 67-63 non-conference loss at Goodman-Pembine on Feb. 12, at 53-42 non-conference loss at Washburn on Feb. 13, and a 68-62 conference win at Athens on Feb. 16. The Screaming Eagles head to Rib Lake on Feb. 19, and finish the regular season at home against Abbotsford on Feb. 22.

    NORTHERN LIGHTS

    The Butternut High School boys basketball team went 0-4 on the week with a 65-23 loss at first place South Shore on Feb. 6, a 78-19 loss at Washburn on Feb 12, a 91-25 home loss to Bayfield on Feb. 14, and a 92-26 loss at Bayfield on Feb. 16. The Mighty Midgets close the regular season with games at Northwood (5-13) on Feb. 19, and at Drummond (11-6) on Feb. 22.

    MARAWOOD NORTH — GIRLS

    Conference, Overall

    Phillips: 15-1, 22-2

    Athens: 13-3, 15-9

    Abbotsford: 7-8, 12-10

    Prentice: 4-12, 9-15

    Rib Lake: 4-12, 9-15

    Chequamegon: 0-16, 4-20

    Phillips did not play this week and are in first place with a 16 game win streak. The Loggers play their final regular season game at Rib Lake on Feb. 15.

    Athens went 1-1 on the week with a 52-46 home loss against Pittsville on Feb. 12, and a 67-20 home win against Prentice on Feb. 15.

    Abbotsford went 2-0 on the week with a 58-36 win at Chequamegon and a 43-35 non-conference home win against Spencer.

    Prentice went 1-1 on the week to move up into fourth place with a 57-43 win at Butternut on Feb. 13, and a 67-20 loss at Athens on Feb. 15. The Buccaneers close the regular season with a non-conference home game against Washburn (8-10) on Feb. 20.

    Rib Lake went 2-1 on the week but still fell into fifth place. The Redmen defeated Mellen with a 66-24 home win on Feb. 12, and won 56-23 against Tomahawk on Feb. 13, before losing 75-36 at home to first place Phillips on Feb. 15. Rib Lake concludes the regular season at The Lakes/Phelps (3-6) on Feb. 20.

    Chequamegon went 1-1 on the week with a 48-28 non-conference home win against Bruce on Feb. 12, and a 58-36 conference loss against Abbotsford on Feb. 15. The Screaming Eagles close the regular season with a non-conference game at Cadott (3-11) on Feb. 20.

    NORTHERN LIGHTS CONFERENCE

    The Butternut High School girls basketball went 2-1 on the week with a 57-43 upset home loss to Prentice on Feb. 13, and a 67-39 loss to second place Drummond on Feb. 15. The Mighty Midgets remain in third place with a 12-6 Northern Lights Conference record and are 16-8 overall. Butternut hosts rival Mercer (6-12) to start the regional tournament on Feb. 20.
