(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) is investigating after a ShotSpotter notification alerted law enforcement to a shooting on Pueblo’s lower east side that left one person dead.

According to PPD, officers responded shortly after 12:35 a.m. to a shooting in the 200 block of South Portland Avenue, south of East 4th Street. Police were initially alerted by the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system, and later received a call to the dispatch center reporting a victim of the shooting was at the intersection of East 5th Street and Reading Avenue.

When police arrived on scene, they found an adult woman near the intersection with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she ultimately died.

The Pueblo County Coroner will determine the official cause and manner of death, though PPD said the woman’s death is being investigated as a homicide. This is the 13th homicide in the City of Pueblo in 2024.

If anyone is a witness or has information on this incident, you are asked to contact PPD at (719) 553-2502 or Detective Ryan Torres at (719) 553-3335. To remain anonymous, you can contact Pueblo Crime Stoppers at (719) 542-STOP (7867) or go online to PuebloCrimeStoppers.com .

If your information leads to a felony arrest, you could be eligible for a cash reward.
