On the road, especially on the west coast, winning two out of three is all you can hope for. The Angels are not a great baseball team, winning the series is within the Mets’ grasp.
The wild card race is continuing to tighten, the Mets have to take advantage of series’ against bad teams.
New York has quite the favorable matchup today. Griffin Canning is on the mound for the Angels.
Canning has really struggled this year. His fastball and breaking ball have been among the league's worst. However, his change up has been elite.
The Mets will need to do what they did when they defeated Tyler Anderson earlier in the series.
New York has to look to take advantage of Canning’s weaker pitches but also sit back and drive the changeup.
Look for J.D Martinez and Jesse Winker to have big games. Both have excellent approaches at the plate and will be patient against pitches out of the zone.
Jose Quintana is on the mound facing his prior team. The left hander is currently on the best stretch of his Mets career. He has pitched to a 1.98 ERA in his last seven starts.
The veteran will look to continue his great run against a beatable Halos lineup.
Here is how the Mets lineup behind Quintana:
1.) SS Francisco Lindor
2.) LF Brandon Nimmo
3.) DH J.D. Martinez
4.) 1B Pete Alonso
5.) RF Jesse Winker
6.) 3B Mark Vientos
7.) C Francisco Alvarez
8.) 2B Jeff McNeil
9.) CF Harrison Bader
SP Jose Quintana
The Angels players have shown why fans are excited about their young players. Zach Neto of course hit the big home run to defeat the Mets yesterday. It will be interesting to see how the veteran Quintana will attack the sometimes overzealous young Angels.
Here is how the Angels line up behind Canning:
1.) 1B Nolan Schanuel
2.) SS Zach Neto
3.) DH Logan O’Hoppe
4.) CF Kevin Pillar
5.) LF Taylor Ward
6.) RF Jo Adell
7.) 3B Charles Leblanc
8.) C Matt Thaiss
9.) 2B Michael Stefanic
SP Griffin Canning
