New York’s hitters were, once again, not able to provide the clutch hit needed to take the lead in last night’s game. They had ample opportunity, but were never able to cash in.

They also did not get good starting pitching from Luis Severino. Paul Blackburn looked good in his first start for the Mets. We will see if he picked anything up from Severino’s outing in terms of how to pitch against the Rockies’ lineup.

The Coors Field effect can be a real shock for pitchers. Severino could not believe that what seemed to be a routine fly ball off one of his pitches ended up being a home run. Blackburn is a ground ball pitcher, which should serve him well at Coors.

If Blackburn can keep the balls on the ground, he can limit the altitude playing a factor. Blackburn has faced the Rockies once. In Colorado last year, he gave up two runs on nine hits in six innings.

Here is how the Mets lineup with Blackburn:

    1.) SS Francisco Lindor

    2.) LF Brandon Nimmo

    3.) DH Jesse Winker

    4.) 1B Pete Alonso

    5.) 2B Jeff McNeil

    6.) 3B Jose Iglesias

    7.) C Francisco Alvarez

    8.) RF Ben Gamel

    9.) CF Tyrone Taylor

    SP Paul Blackburn

Ryan Feltner is on the mound for the Rockies. The Mets hit him well when they saw him last month. Feltner could not get through four innings. He allowed four runs while walking five batters.

The Mets should find success if they work Feltner and force him to consistently throw strikes.

Here is how the dangerous Rockies lineup tonight:

    1.) DH Charlie Blackmon

    2.) SS Ezequiel Tovar

    3.) CF Brenton Doyle

    4.) 3B Ryan McMahon

    5.) 2B Brendan Rogers

    6.) RF Kris Bryant

    7.) 1B Michael Toglia

    8.) C Elias Diaz

    9.) LF Jake Cave

    SP Ryan Feltner

Bud Black is trotting out the identical lineup to the one that scored six runs yesterday.

    How to Watch

The first pitch is scheduled for 8:40 EST. Mets fans can watch the game on SNY, or MLB.TV. You can listen to the game on WCBS 880 or WINS 92.3 FM HD2.
