The city of Rancho Cordova got a head start on its Fourth of July celebrations with a Wednesday night carnival and fireworks show.

It expected to draw 20,000 visitors with two days of Independence Day festivities.

Both events will repeat on July Fourth at Hagan Community Park , with the fireworks show — proclaimed the “best in Northern California” by the city — set for 9:45 p.m.

The carnival runs from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. , and includes another set of circus and concert shows.

Thursday’s events also include a run and 10 a.m. parade.
