( KRON ) — An intruder entered a Redwood City high school and attempted to pull a student out of his classroom on Thursday, the Redwood City Police Department said. The school was placed on lockdown as officers tried to find the suspect.

Staff at Sequoia High School said that at about 2 p.m. a “suspicious person” entered a classroom and attempted to pull a boy out of the room. A teacher intervened, and the suspect fled.

16-year-old shot and killed in Vallejo Wednesday night

As he was leaving the scene, the man said he had a gun and warned people not to touch him. The school was put on lockdown as officers searched for him.

Officers found the man walking out of a building on the west side of campus, police said. The long, cylindrical object he was carrying was found to be an umbrella.

The suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Trey Duus, resisted arrest, causing officers to use less-lethal force. He was hospitalized with minor injuries and will later be booked into jail.

Officers later discovered that Duus punched a hole in a bathroom wall and stole a printer cartridge as he rampaged through the school on his way out.

He will be booked into jail for attempted kidnapping, burglary, child endangerment, obstructing officers, vandalism, and trespassing on school grounds.
