More than 17 years after the previous facility closed, and two years after construction started, Reno has a new pool.

    Three of them, really.

About a million gallons of water were required to fill the three pools at the site on Moana Lane in South Reno. The new Moana Springs Pool will have its grand opening at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The 52,000-square foot facility includes a 50-meter indoor competition pool, a multi-use indoor recreation pool, a outdoor soaking pool, a 5,000-square foot locker rooms and multipurpose rooms.

The $52 million cost for the facility was helped by to a $9 million commitment from the Pennington Foundation. The rest of the money came from the city of Reno's general improvement fund. The original estimate in 2022 was for $46 million.
