ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A Rochester man was arrested Sunday after police say he followed a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office patrol car on his motorcycle, taunted deputies, and crashed.

According to investigators, Christopher Rivers Jr. sped past the patrol car around 8:40 p.m. He then became “aggressive and reckless” while following a marked patrol car, verbally threatening deputies.

Police said Rivers, 27, crashed into an uninvolved vehicle on Genesee Street at Seward Street. He fled on foot, and while running from deputies, looped back to his motorcycle and allegedly grabbed a handgun.

Police said Rivers was arrested as soon as he grabbed the handgun, but two deputies were injured in the process. They were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Rivers was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and assault against police officers. Police said he was unable to legally own a firearm due to his status as a convicted felon.

He is being held at the Monroe County Jail.
