The Winnebago County Coroner has identified the 22-year-old Rockford man who died Thursday night after being found unresponsive at a Rockford area forest preserve.

Aung Zin, 22, of Rockford, and a 16-year-old female were found about 6:30 p.m. inside a running vehicle at Blackhawk Springs Forest Preserve, 5360 Mulford Road in Cherry Valley.

Both Zin and the 16-year-old female were taken to a local hospital. Zin was pronounced dead at 7:38 p.m. Thursday. The 16-year-old female was flown to Madison for treatment.

According to a news release from the coroner's office, preliminary toxicology testing revealed that Zin had a fatal level of carbon monoxide in his system. His preliminary cause of death is asphyxia due to acute carbon monoxide poisoning due to inhalation of motor vehicle exhaust.

The manner of death appears to be an accident, the release states.

The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the incident.
