    Man indicted in murder of estranged girlfriend in St. Pete

    ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A man who police said fatally shot his estranged girlfriend was indicted on first-degree murder on Monday.

    St. Petersburg police announced the indictment of Jerome Isom, 36, who shot Yvonne Abernathy, 25, outside of her apartment.

    Just before 6 a.m. on June 18, Isom shot Abernathy at the Reserve at Lake Point, located at 5640 Lynn Lake Drive South.

    Abernathy was reportedly found in a breezeway outside of the apartments.

    Police said the couple had a history of domestic violence.

    Isom is currently in a South Florida jail for unrelated charges involving Miami Beach police and the Florida Highway Patrol. He will be extradited to Pinellas County to face the murder charge.
