Two teens arrested in connection to deadly Pearl Street shooting in Salinas, according to Police

SALINAS, CALIF. (KION-TV) -- Two 16-year-olds are in custody for allegedly shooting and killing a Salinas man on Wednesday night.

Police say multiple shots were fired outside of a home on North Pearl Street.

When officers arrived they found a 33-year-old man was shot multiple times.

The victim died while being taken to a local hospital, according to police.

Salinas Police Chief John Murray confirmed this is the city's third homicide/murder of the year.

"This is really tragic as we head into the holiday weekend," Chief Murray said. "One family is without their loved one... another family is without their kids because the were kids that we arrested. This isn't what Salinas is about."

Chief Murray said investigators believe there's more suspects involved and hope the community can help them find those individuals.

Murray also confirmed the arrests and shooting all took place in the below-100 block of Pearl Street.

"Things have changed in Salinas," said Murray. "No one wants this anymore and no one ever did. But we're working together to find solutions to these crimes. We're not going to tolerate it."

Police have not identified the victim at this time.

Salinas Police searching for suspect in deadly shooting

Salinas Police are investigating a shooting that left one person dead Wednesday night.

Officials say at around 11:05 p.m., officers received a ShotSpotter activation of multiple rounds in front of a home on N. Pearl Street. Multiple callers also reported hearing gunshots, a male screaming, and a seeing a male on the ground.

Officers responded and found a 33-year-old male victim on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and unresponsive. Officers attempted lifesaving efforts before EMS took over and transported him to Natividad Medical Center. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

During their investigation, officers found multiple casings at the scene. Witnesses also described the suspect as possibly a Hispanic male, wearing dark clothing and last seen running north on N. Pearl Street. Based on the evidence that was gathered during the investigation, the SWAT team served a search warrant at a home on N. Pearl Street this morning. No further updates have been given at this time.
