Brandon Aiyuk Names Two Potential Landing Spots If 49ers Talks Fail

Brandon Aiyuk hasn't given up on the possibility of signing a contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers. Still, if those talks fall through, he already has two other teams in mind as possible landing spots.

When appearing on "The Pivot Podcast," Aiyuk said he could envision himself in the 49ers, Washington Commanders or even a Pittsburgh Steelers uniform when the season starts.

Washington Commanders emerge as a strong contender due to the personal connection Aiyuk shares with Jayden Daniels, his former college quarterback at Arizona State. Their close bond and Aiyuk's preference make it a compelling option outside of San Francisco.

Pittsburgh could also be interesting, considering they have a real need at the receiver position opposite of George Pickens.

"Probably a Niners uniform. If not a Niners uniform, probably a Washington Commanders uniform. If not a Washington Commanders uniform, then probably a Steelers uniform," Aiyuk said.

The Commanders have the second-most salary cap space in the entire league behind the New England Patriots. So they have the money to make the numbers work, assuming San Francisco would agree to a trade.

Aiyuk joining Jahan Dotson and Terry McLaurin would instantly give the Commanders one of the best receiving corps in the league.

That would surely excite fans, but it could also hurt them in the long run. The Commanders have other areas on their roster to address.

Sure, they'd love to have Aiyuk on their team. Who wouldn't? But it could come at the cost of other areas for a team with two viable starting receivers at the top of their depth chart.

On NFL Live, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Commanders and 49ers had talks on Aiyuk, but the Commanders ultimately passed on a deal.

Aiyuk will be expensive for any team that thinks about looking in his direction. They have to give up draft compensation and agree to a likely massive contract extension to keep him happy.

Justin Jefferson broke the bank with the Minnesota Vikings on a four-year, $140 million deal. And Jaylen Waddle agreed to a three-year, $84.75 million deal. Aiyuk could fall somewhere in between for any team with the draft assets and money to afford him.
