SAULT STE. MARIE — The International Bridge Walk was canceled due to bad weather and will likely not be rescheduled this year.

The bridge walk allows residents on both sides of the St. Marys River to walk across the International Bridge and get a unique look at the river, passing freighters and the twin Saults. Inclement weather on Saturday forced the event's cancelation, as it would have been unsafe for walkers.

"The morning of the walk we called it off because of the rain but also the possibility of thunder and lightning and we couldn't put people out there when it's too slippery or when the possibility of more severe wind," said Tony Haller, executive director at the Sault Area Chamber of Commerce.

While the Michigan and Ontario chambers of commerce still need to coordinate to reschedule, Haller said the bridge walk is unlikely to return this year. The chamber is looking ahead to put the 2025 bridge walk into motion.

"More than likely it won't be rescheduled to return this year," said Haller. "It takes a lot of coordination from a lot of different groups, so it probably won't come back until 2025."
