Police drones could respond to your next 911 call

( NewsNation ) — America may have another weapon in the fight against danger.

As reported by Axios , first-responder drones will be implemented in police departments across the country.

Scottsdale Arizona Police Department will be the first to use the drones. Flock Safety, which produces gunshot detection systems and cameras for U.S. police, says drones have the capacity to be used in emergencies.

Examples include flying above to assess a situation or arriving on the scene prior to emergency services.

Drones could also be used in AMBER alert or stolen vehicle cases, with officers or dispatchers able to send a rooftop drone to the location of the vehicle within 90 seconds, per Axios .

However, there are some concerns as to how drone usage may impact upon privacy.

“We’re very concerned that we may be moving toward a future where we find ourselves constantly scanning the skies, seeing drones overhead, and feeling like the eyes of law enforcement are always upon us,” Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union policy analyst, said in 2023.
