Odor leads to discovery of two bodies at Shakopee apartment complex

Officers investigating an odor at a Shakopee apartment complex late Monday morning discovered two bodies, authorities confirmed.

The individuals, who've not yet been identified, were found at the River Ridge Apartment complex around 11 a.m. by officers responding to an odor complaint.

"While we cannot release the cause of death at this time, rest assured there is no danger to the residents of Riva Ridge Apartments or to our community," Shakopee Police Chief Jeff Tate wrote in a letter sent to apartment residents Tuesday.

On Monday, investigators with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.

According to Tate, no suspects are being sought in connection with the investigation.

"We greatly appreciate your patience yesterday," Tate wrote.  "A large police presence always raises suspicion but we want to assure you that there is no threat to the community with this case."

Further details are expected at a later time with the release of autopsy findings from the medical examiner.
