SIDNEY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — After two people were found dead in a home near Sheridan Wednesday morning, troopers say they’ve determined it was a double homicide.

Michigan State Police identified the two slain as Jessie Seward, 81, and Virginia Seward, 80, of Sheridan. Everybody knew the couple, according to T.J. Knight, works at Bush Hardware.

“It’s tragic what happened to this community, and we’re still trying to figure out why it happened, and what for,” said Knight.

Virginia, known as Ginny, worked at Sheridan Village Market just down the road from his store. That’s where Knight said he would see her a lot when he picked up lunch.

Police investigate 2 ‘suspicious’ deaths near Sheridan

“Happy, talk your ear off, sweet lady, sweet family,” he said.

Around 9:35 a.m. Wednesday, troopers were called to a home on Beaver Drive near W County Farm Road in Sidney Township. A family member had reported that two people were found dead. Troopers initially termed it a “suspicious death investigation” and have released very little information.

On Wednesday, MSP Lt. Michelle Robinson wouldn’t say whether there were signs of breaking and entering at the home or if neighbors heard shots fired.

“Please do not speculate what you’re seeing or hearing on social media until after we complete the investigation so that we do have accurate information coming in and it doesn’t hinder the investigation at all,” MSP Lt. Michelle Robinson said Wednesday.

If you have any information, you’re asked to contact MSP at 989.352.8444 or Montcalm County Central Dispatch at 989.831.3500.
