ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A Shiprock man has been charged with second-degree murder following a fatal stabbing. Edison Brady, 55, appeared before a federal judge on Monday and will remain in custody until his detention hearing.

A criminal complaint states on July 25, 2024, Navajo Nation Police Department officers responded to reports of a fight in progress near a business in Shiprock. When they got there, officers found John Doe unresponsive on the ground with wounds to his face and chest. Doe was later pronounced dead at Northern Navajo Medical Center.

Officials say Brady punched and kicked Doe before taking a knife from his backpack and stabbing Doe. Witnesses told officers they saw Brady assault Doe, who did not defend himself. A knife with blood stains was recovered from Brady’s possession.

If Brady is convicted, he faces up to life in prison. His detention hearing is on Wednesday.
